About the Menu Bars
Published on Feb 19th, 2009 |
There are two navigation menus in Mu. The top most bar displays pages in non-hierarchical fashion, with sub menus appearing in the sidebar when needed. And it is worth noting that those sub menus are pretty clever – they show siblings! If you don’t know what that means, don’t worry. The second navigation bar is a drop down menu and by default shows post categories.
Everybody seems to be looking for drop down menus. The Alpha theme was one of the first WordPress themes to do this, and this is the first theme I have made since the beginning of the Greek alphabet that includes them again. But we’ve turned up the heat a bit this time thanks to the cool superfish and jquery.Menu Options
The theme optiom page allows you to change the way menus work and even disable them. You can…
- Choose either pages or categories as your drop down menu
- Disable the top menu (useful if you want a drop down page menu)
- Exclude categories and pages from the menus. – This is quite important as you will be using some categories to pipe content to the right sections in your site and usually won’t want them appearing in regular menus.
So after all those e-mails from people trying to shoe-horn the code from the Alpha theme into Upsilon – I finally got round to it.
